Events

Sep. 25, 2024

"Grant writing…ugh." Sound familiar? For many non-profit volunteers and staff, grant writing can seem like a time-consuming task in creative writing with the payoff being luck of the draw. The truth is, with steep competition for limited grant dollars, a well-written grant is only part of the success formula.

During this FREE, one-hour webinar (12 PM - 1 PM), keynote speaker, Justin Solamillo, will cover core proposal and grant writing skills, how to avoid common pitfalls, understanding what funders look for, and tips on how to maintain good relationships with your funders.

Speaker Bio: Justin works in the Community Development Unit within Alberta Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women. His first role was supporting non-profit groups affected by the 2013 Southern Alberta Floods, and over the years has morphed into non-profit sector capacity building through online and in-person governance learning and development training.

Justin’s background is in community organizing and engagement, program coordination and facilitation. He has a Master of Social Work degree specializing in International and Community Development from the University of Calgary. Highlights include a practicum with the United Nations Non-Government Organization Committee in New York. He has a wealth of experience working in diverse communities and organizations with diverse needs. Originally from Vancouver, Justin found his way to Calgary in 2011 and is self-professed foodie, loves to play sports and is an active musician.

Organizational Background: Community capacity building is about promoting the capacity of local communities to develop, implement and sustain their own solutions to problems in a way that helps them shape and exercise control over their physical, social, economic and cultural environments. The Community Development Unit provides (no fee for service, no charge to client) customized capacity building services for non-profit, charitable organizations, social profit organizations, unincorporated collaboratives and committees to help you achieve your solutions. Their services are available online or in-person, and are responsive, proactive and innovative.

A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
